Violin Making Workbook

This workbook was compiled by my previous apprentice, Scott Rawley, in Salt Lake City, UT over many years of working in my shop. Although I have retired from teaching, I have decided to make it available as a useful tool for others with an interest in learning the finer points of violin making.

Use the menu links on the left to navigate the workbook.

It is by no means complete or comprehensive, just a compilation of notes written by my former apprentice. As time permits, I will edit and amend the pages, so please check back often.

You are welcome to link to this workbook, but please do not copy any of the information contained to any other site.

I have been a violin maker for 43 years and I am proud of the reputation I have built. I am especially proud of the fact that many of today's most well known musicians have acquired multiple instruments of mine over the years; affirming the fact that not only do my instruments retain their sound quality but that they improve with time.
